Shannon Kobs Nawotniak is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Idaho State University.  She completed her doctorate at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2009 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City and SUNY Buffalo.  She uses computational fluid dynamics, laboratory experiments, and field work to investigate multiphase flows, particularly the impact of ambient wind on volcanic eruption plume morphology and resulting tephra dispersion.
